Cave Coloring Book Series
Want line drawings for coloring inspired by the ancient Greeks?
Relax by losing yourself in one of the following Cave Coloring Book Series books.

Why in the world would you want to buy a coloring book? Look below for the Cave's brief explanation.
What you'll get in each coloring book:

35 images (modified for coloring) originally made by John Flaxman (1755-1826). That's hours and hours of relaxing, coloring activity!
Each image is accompanied by a description tying the image to Homer's Iliad or Odyssey.
What else? Included in each coloring book are brief parts, 1. explaining the therapeutic benefits of doing art and coloring (see below), 2. suggesting media and techniques for coloring, and 3. summarizing each book of the Iliad and the Odyssey (depending on the coloring book).
For now, print off and color the four samples offered above. Enjoy!
Why might you want to get a coloring book?
Part of the "why" has to do with the therapeutic benefits of doing art and coloring.

Human beings create. That’s what we do. But we don’t just create things. We long to make things beautiful—things that will catch the eye.

Part of creating or making something is taking the time to plan the thing’s form, and then, once its form is established, taking more time to decorate it, to make its appearance interesting in some way. This may be done with a certain color, the width of a line or lines, or the texture.

For whatever reason, and there are many, the very act of making something is deeply satisfying for many people. It may be the sense of accomplishment that comes with the act. Or if we are lost in the creative act, we may find ourselves experiencing what one psychologist has termed “flow”—a state of mind that somehow builds up and integrates the self and mind.

Beyond the satisfaction, the process of making something is healing for many people. The healing, restorative benefit may result from the mere act of expressing ourselves. Or—as said above—it may come when we lose ourselves in a flow experience. The great news is that no talent is required to benefit from doing art! It is the doing itself, not the result, that is beneficial.

And that’s where coloring comes into play for us. With the 35 images presented in each Cave coloring book, we have everything necessary to feel the satisfaction of making something and the healing benefits of coloring.

So let’s go! There are hours of relaxing flow and enjoyment ahead. The next step—or color choice and stroke—is up to you.
