__________
3 Action Points
Ponder what makes for happiness. Consider general ingredients for “all or most people” and specific “you” ingredients for you. Describe each ingredient.
Write a happiness recipe adding the general “all or most people” ingredients to the specific “you” ingredients. The result will be “My Happiness Recipe.”
Practice your happiness recipe, knowing that “we must practice those things that produce happiness” since “happiness is an activity.” Evaluate how your practice is going.
Writing a Recipe for Happiness
Workout Summary
Workout 2 directs us to think about happiness and make a happiness recipe.
We start by considering what it is, exactly, that adds up to happiness. We do so by answering two questions. One, what makes most people happy? Two, what makes me happy?
Taking our answers to these two questions, we combine three “ingredients” from each category to write a recipe for happiness. The result will be “My Recipe for Happiness.”
Finally, we’ll follow our happiness recipe knowing that “happiness is an act,” as Aristotle said, and that, according to Epicurus, “we must practice those things that produce happiness.”
As always, we’ll finish by evaluating how our practice is going after some time has passed.
