__________
3 Action Points
Examine your past—how you have attempted to approach success and avoid failure. Have you thought for yourself? Have you turned to others for advice? Or have you done things blindly, without really thinking about the best way to achieve success?
Identify ways you can regularly rely on your own thinking (deliberation) and the advice of others to achieve success going forward.
Practice thinking for yourself and getting advice whenever you do something that may or may not turn out well depending on how you approach it and what you do.
Thinking for Yourself & Getting Advice
Workout Summary
Workout 1 teaches us to achieve success and avoid failure by thinking for ourselves and turning to others for advice.
We start off with a fact. In everything we do, we can either move toward success or failure.
We continue with a question: how can we best move toward success and avoid failure?
After learning Hesiod’s answer to the question, that we can move toward success and avoid failure by thinking for ourselves and getting advice, we examine our own lives. How have we approached things in the past? How can we better approach things going forward?
As always, we finish with practice, employing Hesiod’s ways (thinking for ourselves and getting advice) the next time we encounter something that may end in success or failure.
